Fibers

It all began with three children and three bottle baby lambs back in 1985. Over the years the flock size has ebbed and waned with our energy and time. Somehow each year it seems to swell hugely in the spring and we are practically overrun with babies…and of course, wool, as we shear in February just before lambing. We have raised many different breeds of sheep, trying out each type of wool fiber in terms of its use. Lincoln Longwool, a minor breed, became the fiber producer of choice quite a few years ago mostly because they are so beautiful, have a lovely disposition and…Susan was weaving rugs.

These days the flock is a multi-breed collection of ewes. We have a few Lincoln Longwools still, Border Leicester, Romney and our newest addition…Blue Faced Leicester. Being an avid fiber collector, many of the yarns we produce contain other luscious things like alpaca or llama from neighboring farms.
